Jörg Matthes is a Full Professor of Communication Science and Vice-Chair at the Department of Communication , University of Vienna, where he directs the Advertising and Media Psychology Research Group (AdMe) . With over 200 journal publications, his research spans digital media effects, advertising, sustainability communication, children's media exposure, terrorism narratives, and empirical methods. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Sydney and Ohio State University. Key Research Areas: Digital Hate, Political Microtargeting, Greenwashing, Cyberbullying, and Methodological Innovations. International Leadership: Editor-in-Chief of Communication Theory (2023-27), former Editor of Communication Methods & Measures (2016-20), and member of 15+ editorial boards. Scientific Recognition includes the ERC Advanced Grant (2022), ICA Fellow (2021), AEJMC Hillier Krieghbaum Under 40 Award (2016), and ICA Young Scholar Award (2014). His work on political advertising, digital hate, and media effects has earned multiple top paper awards at ICA, AEJMC, and ICORIA. Editorial and Service Contributions: Led Communication Methods & Measures to #1 ranking in SSCI during 2016-2020. Served as Chair (2014-2022) and Vice-Chair (2012-2014, 2022-present) of the University of Vienna's Communication Department, elevating it to top 30 globally. Advises on quality assessment for higher education institutions in the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and China.
