Dr Umaima Haider is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Engineering and Computing within the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering at the University of East London . With over a decade of experience in academic research and teaching, she has held roles such as Senior Scientist at UEL's Enterprise Computing Research Lab, Technical Analyst at Uptime Institute, Lecturer in Computing at Falmouth University (UK), and Visiting Research Scholar at Clemson University (USA). Her research focuses on sustainable ICT infrastructure, particularly in cloud computing, data centers, and software architecture. Education: She holds a BEng, MSc, and PhD from the University of East London. Her research interests center on the design and implementation of sustainable ICT infrastructure , with a focus on cloud and data center environments. She has explored hybrid cooling schemes using sea water, energy-efficient network infrastructure models (e.g., port consolidation, switch refresh), and integration of real-time energy data with edge computing for optimized cloud operations. Her work has influenced UK public policy on ICT product sustainability and energy consumption regulation. Recent publications highlight her interdisciplinary approach, addressing both broad domains like cloud computing and energy efficiency and specific subfields such as green data centers, edge continuum, and renewable energy integration in telecom . Earlier contributions to software architecture include the ALI Architecture Description Language and variability modeling in software systems. Dr Haider is a member of the Enterprise Computing Research Group , which has been rated 4* (world-leading) in digital infrastructure sustainability by the UK Government's REF2021. The group contributes to international standards (e.g., ISO 22237, EN 50600-5-1) and policy development for bodies like the EU EMAS for ICT and the UK STAR Committee .
