Nadire Nayir is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. She is a computational materials scientist specializing in atomic-scale simulations of two-dimensional materials and nanostructures. Her research focuses on developing and applying computational methods to understand material properties and behavior at the atomic level. Her educational background includes: PhD in Physics from Middle East Technical University (2011-2018) License in Physics Teaching from Selcuk University (2005-2009) License in Secondary Science and Mathematics Education from Atatürk University Nadire Nayir's research interests span multiple areas of computational materials science, with a particular focus on two-dimensional materials and nanostructures. She actively develops and applies atomic-scale computer simulations, ranging from first-principles density functional theory to reactive force fields like ReaxFF. Her work often bridges theory, computation, and experimental validation to study newly discovered materials with superior properties. She has made significant contributions to understanding the growth mechanisms, structural properties, and applications of 2D materials including graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides (like WSe2 and MoS2), and other low-dimensional systems. Her publication record shows a strong focus on computational modeling of two-dimensional materials, with particular emphasis on ReaxFF molecular dynamics simulations. Over recent years, her research has evolved from fundamental studies of material properties to more applied research on energy storage applications and electronic device development using 2D materials. The interdisciplinary nature of her work is evident in the range of journals where she publishes, spanning materials science, physics, chemistry, and engineering disciplines. Dr. Nayir has received recognition for her work, including the TUBITAK 2214 award in 2017. Her research has been cited over 700 times according to Scopus metrics, with an h-index of 15. Throughout her career, Dr. Nayir has maintained strong collaborative relationships with researchers at The Pennsylvania State University, where she has held positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher (2018-2021), Visiting Scholar (2017-2018), and currently as a Research Affiliate. These collaborations have been instrumental in developing the ReaxFF reactive force field and applying it to various materials systems. Her laboratory work focuses on computational materials science, particularly simulations of two-dimensional materials and their interfaces. She works with a team that develops and applies computational tools to predict material behavior, with applications in electronics, energy storage, and nanotechnology.
