Eva Carolina Sañudo Zotes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Barcelona. As a senior member of the Grup de Magnetisme i Molecules Funcionals (GMMF) since its founding in 2009, she leads the Molecular Nanoscience research line focused on molecular nanomagnets. She currently serves on the IN2UB Steering Committee and founded the Equal Opportunities Committee at IN2UB in 2022. Her academic journey began with a Chemistry Degree (1997) and Master in Experimental Chemistry - Inorganic Chemistry (1998) from the University of Barcelona, followed by a PhD from Indiana University (2003). Postdoctoral research at the University of Manchester (2003-2005) preceded her prestigious Juan de la Cierva Fellowship (2005) and Ramón y Cajal Fellowship (2008), which led to her permanent appointment at UB in 2013. Dr. Sañudo's research pioneers molecular magnetism and nanoscience, specializing in single-molecule magnets (SMMs), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and coordination chemistry. Her work emphasizes microwave-assisted synthesis, nanostructuration of SMMs, surface-molecule interactions, and applications in molecular spintronics, information storage, and drug delivery. She has developed innovative approaches for 2D Van der Waals MOFs and clean synthesis methods, significantly advancing the field of molecular nanomagnets. Analysis of her 2019-2024 publications reveals consistent focus on hybrid magnetic systems, particularly SMM-nanoparticle composites and 2D MOF architectures. Her work bridges fundamental crystallography with practical applications, demonstrating exceptional innovation in surface functionalization techniques and magnetocaloric effects for next-generation spintronic devices. Her scientific recognition includes: Juan de la Cierva Fellowship (2005) Ramón y Cajal Fellowship (2008) I3 Certificate for research excellence Canon Foundation Fellowship (2013) Invitation to write Perspectives review for Dalton Transactions (2015) Dr. Sañudo has secured continuous funding through Spanish Ministry grants (2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021) and Generalitat AGAUR projects, serving as Principal Investigator since 2019. She has hosted PhD students from Costa Rica, Iran, Tunisia, and Germany, along with visiting professors from Indiana University and University of Melbourne. As an expert reviewer for international journals and funding agencies, she actively shapes her field while mentoring the next generation of scientists. Her Molecular NanoLab (https://www.ub.edu/molnanolab) operates within IN2UB, where her team develops cutting-edge molecular nanomagnets for spintronic applications. Through GMMF and European collaborations like COST MolSpin and FATMOLS, she maintains a global research network spanning Europe, Asia, and the Americas, driving innovation in molecular materials science.
