Prof. Dr. Fotis Jannidis is Chair of Computational Philology and Modern German Literary History at the University of Würzburg's Faculty of Philosophy, where he has served as Professor for digital literary studies and German literature since the summer semester of 2009. His work is centered at the Center for Philology and Digitality, where he leads research at the intersection of traditional literary scholarship and computational methods. Dr. Jannidis's primary research interests include Computational Literary Studies , Digital Humanities , History of the Novel , Macroanalysis of German Literature , and Stilometry . His work bridges traditional philological approaches with cutting-edge computational methods, creating new pathways for literary analysis. He has pioneered methods for analyzing large-scale literary corpora, character networks, and historical shifts in literary production. His recent publications demonstrate a clear trend toward increasingly sophisticated computational approaches to literary analysis, with particular focus on emotion analysis in poetry, genre classification, historical encyclopedia analysis, and character studies. His work spans both theoretical foundations of digital literary studies and practical applications across German literary history from the 18th to 20th centuries. Dr. Jannidis leads several major research projects including the DFG Priority Programme SPP 22207 Computational Literary Studies, Encynet, Clariah-de, the Redewiedergabe-Projekt, Faustedition, and TextGrid. These projects represent significant contributions to digital humanities infrastructure in Germany and internationally. As an educator, he has supervised numerous graduate theses on topics ranging from narrative memory in contemporary German literature to character analysis in ETA Hofmann's works. His teaching reflects his research interests, integrating computational approaches with traditional literary scholarship.
