Prof. Shusong BA serves as Professor of Practice in Finance at The University of Hong Kong's Business School since February 2025, concurrently holding key executive positions including Managing Director and Chief China Economist at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) and Chief Economist at the China Banking Association. His multifaceted career spans academic research, high-level policy advisory, and institutional leadership across finance and economics. His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Economics from Central University of Finance and Economics (1999), Master of Economics (1994) and Bachelor of Engineering (1991) from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, supplemented by postdoctoral research at Peking University (2001) and Columbia University visiting scholarship (2013). Professor Ba's research focuses on practical applications in financial regulation (Basel III frameworks), risk management, asset management, banking development, and modern exchange operations. His expertise extends to specialized areas including green finance implementation, RMB internationalization, bond market connectivity, and real estate finance, consistently bridging theoretical research with market operations and policy decision-making in China's evolving financial landscape. His 15+ recent publications (2016-2025) reveal a strategic focus on China's financial system transformation, with recurring themes in market connectivity (Stock/Bond Connect), sustainable finance adoption, and real estate market dynamics. These works demonstrate consistent analysis of Hong Kong's role as an international financial hub and China's integration into global financial systems, emphasizing practical policy implications over theoretical constructs. His distinguished service includes: Special Government Allowance from the State Council as a finance expert Keynote speaker for Politburo collective study sessions Member of China's 13th Five-Year Plan Professional Committee Expert in HKSAR Chief Executive's Policy Unit (since 2024) Professor Ba has significantly contributed to academic development through adjunct professorships at Peking University, Tsinghua University, and other top Chinese institutions, while his government service includes HKSAR Economic Development Committee membership (2012-2017) and Columbia University's Actuarial Advisory Board (since 2021).
