Shardé Smith is an Associate Professor in both Human Development and Family Studies and African American Studies at the University of Illinois. She also holds affiliate positions with the Center for Social & Behavioral Science and the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute. Her research focuses on: Social connectedness and resilience Effects of racial discrimination on families Mental health and wellness in African American communities Dr. Smith's scholarly work demonstrates a consistent focus on racial dynamics within family systems, particularly examining how racial discrimination impacts Black families and youth.
