Dr. Andrew Bendall is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph. His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of animal development, particularly the role of homeobox genes like the Dlx family during vertebrate embryogenesis. He uses chicken and mouse models to investigate transcriptional control, cell differentiation, and tissue patterning. His work emphasizes functional redundancy, protein specificity, and evolutionary aspects of developmental biology. Education: B.Sc. (Biology) from Australian National University Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Macquarie University (Sydney) Research Interests: Dr. Bendall's lab explores the Dlx gene family's role in chondrocyte differentiation, craniofacial patterning, and transcriptional regulation. They combine in vivo strategies like retroviral transgenesis in chicken embryos with in vitro studies to dissect biochemical mechanisms. Current projects include studying Dlx-mediated cell cycle control and identifying novel co-factors.
