Varoujan Gorjian is a Researcher at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), affiliated with the California Institute of Technology, under the Astrophysics & Space Sciences division and the Galaxy Evolution department. He has been at JPL since 1998, serving in roles such as the Spitzer Education and Public Outreach lead and Spitzer Project Science Office Scientist. His education includes a B.S. in Astrophysics from Caltech (1992), followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Astronomy & Astrophysics from UCLA (1994 and 1998 respectively). His research focuses on studying Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), infrared and radio imaging of star-forming regions, and determining the Cosmic Infrared Background (CIRB). These efforts aim to understand galactic evolution, star formation mechanisms, and the cosmic history of stellar activity. Gorjian has received multiple accolades, including NASA Group Achievement Awards for Spitzer/Education teams (2013, 2011), the Muhlmann Award (2010), and a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship (1998-2000). His work bridges observational astrophysics with public outreach, contributing to both scientific discovery and education initiatives. He has advised no listed students but leads significant projects like Spitzer's public outreach and contributes to missions such as Herschel. His research outputs span over two decades, with publications in prestigious journals like ApJ and AJ , covering topics from AGN spectroscopy to galaxy evolution studies.
