John Perry is a Professor of Molecular Endocrinology at the University of Cambridge and an MRC Investigator at the MRC Epidemiology Unit. He co-leads the Early Life Aetiology and Mechanisms of Diabetes and Related Metabolic Disorders programme with Professor Ken Ong, focusing on human genetics approaches to understand links between early life growth, reproductive ageing, and later cardio-metabolic health. His work involves large-scale population studies and collaborations with researchers using animal and cellular models. Research Interests His research integrates genetic and epidemiological methods to explore: Genetic mechanisms of reproductive traits (puberty timing, menarche, menopause) Relationships between reproductive ageing and cardio-metabolic disease Role of hormonal pathways in metabolic health Translational applications of genetic findings for disease prevention Recent Article Trends Recent publications highlight genetic determinants of aging, obesity, cancer susceptibility, and neurodevelopmental processes. Key areas include proteomic aging, DNA repair pathways, cross-species obesity genetics, and functional genomics of reproductive traits using CRISPR and saturation editing techniques.
