Barbara Jo White is a Professor of Computer Information Systems at Western Carolina University's College of Business, within the School of Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, and Business Law. She holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi, an MBA in Management Information Systems from East Carolina University, and a BA in Journalism and Botany from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research interests span Artificial Intelligence (AI), Prompt Development Life Cycle (PDLC), IT and Law intersections, search engine imagery, and emerging technologies in education. She has pioneered initiatives like the World Map Project (1987–1989) while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic, creating global map murals in schools worldwide. She also founded the Sound To Sea Program (1992–2000), engaging 150,000 students in coastal environmental education. Her publications focus on AI ethics in education, data privacy compliance, interdisciplinary remote work during crises, and business analytics tools like Tableau. Her teaching emphasizes courses like CIS251 (Enterprise Information Systems), CIS353 (Database Theory), and BA304 (Multicultural Business Communication), blending technical rigor with global perspectives. She integrates real-world projects into curricula, such as geolocation-enabled mobile apps and IT governance frameworks. Dr. White’s career combines academic innovation with community engagement, spanning Peace Corps service, coastal environmental education, and global IT policy exploration. Her work highlights intersections between technology, ethics, and cross-cultural understanding.
