Dr. Samantha Scallan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Winchester, leading the MA Medical Education programme and convening the Medical Education Research Centre. She has been teaching on medical education courses since 2007, focusing on general practice education, GP trainer development, and medical appraisal systems. Her research emphasizes qualitative methods in evaluating GP training programs, quality assurance processes, and innovative educational interventions. Education: Completed her PhD at the University of Winchester in 1998, investigating the construction of 'race' in educational policy-making. Research Interests: Strategic development of GP training, appraisal and revalidation processes, resilience in medical education, and interprofessional learning. Key areas include GP workforce retention, simulation-based education, and supporting clinicians with dyslexia. Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and reports on GP education, including influential work on the Audio-COT assessment tool and the benefits of medical appraisal systems. Awarded RCGP Certificate of Commendation (2017) for contributions to primary care education Wessex RCGP Primary Care Award (2013) for regional educational impact Professional Roles: Deputy Editor of Education for Primary Care , External Examiner for Newcastle and Dundee Medical Education programs, and member of the ASME Educator Development Committee.
