Prof. dr. ir. Johan Maljaars holds the position of Full Professor and Chair of Aluminium Structures at Eindhoven University of Technology's Department of Built Environment, Unit of Structural Engineering and Design. He also serves as Principal Scientist for metal structures at TNO. His expertise encompasses structural performance of aluminium structures, fatigue and fracture mechanics of metal structures, and structural fire resistance. His research investigates reliability aspects of fatigue-loaded structures including bridges and wind turbines, employing advanced computational mechanics and experimental validation. Research outputs focus on fatigue life prediction, fracture mechanics modeling, structural safety assessment, and innovative repair techniques. Recent publications develop multiscale approaches for defect analysis in metallic structures and probabilistic methods for infrastructure safety. Professor Maljaars contributes to significant projects including 'Growing with Green Steel' and 'SUBLIME', which aim to advance sustainable and reliable steel infrastructure through fundamental research and practical applications.
