Esin Ilhan Caarls is a part-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), affiliated with the High Tech Systems Center and the Electromechanics and Power Electronics Group. She holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from TU/e (2014) and has extensive industry experience, including roles at Bosch Transmission Technology since 2015 as an Electrical Systems Engineer and E-Drive Specialist. Education: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Istanbul Technical University (2007) Master's in Electrical Engineering, TU/e (2009) PhD in Electrical Engineering, TU/e (2014) Research Interests: Focus on multi-physical approaches in smart mobility, including energy-thermal integration, real-time data-driven design models, and lightweight recyclable materials in electrical drives. Her work emphasizes affordable solutions for transportation within circular economy frameworks. Expertise spans electromagnetic/thermal design, powertrain simulations, and motor control strategies. Key Contributions: Over 47 publications since 2008, with recent work on torque control frameworks for reluctance machines, adaptive PI control for PMSMs, and battery management systems. Awards include the Best Paper Award at IEEE Young Researcher’s Symposium (2010) and the Irene Curie Fellowship (2020). Advising & Collaboration: Supervised MSc, PDEng, and PhD projects at TU/e and collaborating universities. Active in industrial partnerships, particularly in high-efficiency drive systems for mobility applications. Member of TU/e’s Cyber-Physical Systems Center and EAISI Mobility initiative.
