Dr. Heather Price is an Associate Professor in Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Stirling, where she has been employed since 2015, progressing from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer and then to her current position. She serves in several leadership roles including BES PGR Director, Chair of the BES PGR Tutor team, and Faculty PGR Committee Member. Dr. Price is also the Academic lead for Stirling in the NERC Iapetus Doctoral Training Programme and holds significant external appointments as the UKRI Regional Clean Air Champion for Scotland and member of the Scottish Government's CAFS2 Public Engagement Working Group. Dr. Price's research focuses on improving public health through engagement with air quality issues, employing interdisciplinary approaches that bridge environmental science with geography, social science, and arts & humanities. Her work emphasizes community-centered methods including co-creation, citizen science, and participatory research. Current projects include the Forth Environmental Resilience Array (Forth-ERA), which deploys co-designed air quality monitoring networks across Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire, and research on the impact of air pollution on bee cognition funded by the British Beekeepers Association. Her projects span both the UK and Africa, addressing environmental pollution and public health challenges through transdisciplinary collaboration. Her recent publications reflect a strong emphasis on air pollution, public health, community engagement, and water governance. Analysis of her work shows consistent integration of scientific rigor with participatory approaches, demonstrating how environmental research can be effectively translated into policy and behavioral change. Her research increasingly focuses on developing meaningful pathways for stakeholders to engage with environmental data through innovative digital repositories and participatory methods. Dr. Price has received notable recognition including her appointment as UKRI Regional Clean Air Champion for Scotland and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Her professional activities extend to serving on the BSI standard committee on Indoor Air and contributing to national air quality policy development. As a supervisor, Dr. Price currently mentors two PhD students: Sydney Byrns on inclusive water governance in Malawi and Heather Anderson on reconciling scientific and non-scientific safe water realities. She previously supervised Amy McCarron's research on air pollution and sustainable behavioral changes. Her supervision approach emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world impact, aligning with her broader research philosophy. Dr. Price leads the Forth Environmental Resilience Array (Forth-ERA), a living laboratory that provides environmental data and analytics to facilitate scientific research, improve environmental management, and stimulate business innovation in support of Scotland's transition to a net zero carbon society. This initiative exemplifies her commitment to creating research infrastructure that serves both academic and community needs.
