Dorcas Ohui Owusu is a Lecturer in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. She holds a Ph.D. in Immunology, MPhil in Microbiology, and BSc. in Molecular Biology, and is actively involved in teaching undergraduate courses and supervising postgraduate research. Her research focuses on infectious diseases, particularly viral hepatitis and tuberculosis, with emphasis on identifying disease mechanisms and biomarkers that can improve patient outcomes. Key interests include investigating components of disease aetiology and management that influence health outcomes, and studying biomarkers responsible for immune dynamism in different patient conditions. Her dissertation explored immune markers in spontaneous recovery from viral hepatitis (HCV) infection. Dr. Owusu's recent publications show significant contributions to understanding tuberculosis immunopathology, HIV co-infections, and molecular mechanisms of liver disease. Her work frequently employs molecular detection techniques (PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, Line Probe Assay, Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification) and immunoassays (EIA, Flow Cytometry, Cytometric Bead Array). She is currently the principal investigator for KNUST Research Funding (KREF-7), optimizing molecular assays for M. perstans identification in Ghanaian samples, and investigating viral hepatitis and HIV co-infections to develop better management strategies. Ghana Science Association Immunology Society Ghana WiSTEM Ghana American Society for Microbiology Dr. Owusu is actively mentoring students through thesis supervision and has developed expertise in molecular and immunological techniques for infectious disease research in the Ghanaian context.
