Stephanie Sen is a Professor of Chemistry and former Chair of the Department of Chemistry at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), where she has been affiliated since 2011. She previously held faculty positions at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) from 1998 to 2008, including as Associate Professor and Adjunct Associate Professor. Her research bridges bioorganic chemistry, plant/insect metabolism, and agricultural science. Education: B.A. in Chemistry from Bryn Mawr College (1984) Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Stony Brook University (1989), advised by Glenn D. Preswitch. NIH postdoctoral training at Scripps Research Institute (1989–1990, Don Hilvert) and Stanford University (1990–1991, William S. Johnson). Her research focuses on isoprenoid biosynthesis in insects and plants, particularly targeting enzymes like farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FPPS) and isopentenyl diphosphate isomerase (IDI) for selective agricultural agents . She has secured over $1.5 million in grants from the NIH, NSF, and USDA, including a Herman Frasch Foundation Award for Agricultural Research. Recent publications highlight her work on inhibitor design for insect juvenile hormone pathways, structural characterization of lepidopteran enzymes, and undergraduate NMR spectroscopy integration. Articles span biochemistry, enzymology, and pesticide science , emphasizing targeted pest control and biochemical mechanisms . Scientific Awards: Herman Frasch Foundation Award for Agricultural Research (1997) IUPUI University Teaching Award (2008) NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship (1989) Multiple TCNJ Support of Scholarly Activities (SOSA) Awards (2009–2023) She has served on numerous committees, including as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee and Program Coordinator for the TCNJ Honors Program, and mentors undergraduate researchers extensively.
