Julie Ann Dopheide, PharmD, BCPP, FASHP is a Clinical Professor in the Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Pharmacy. She provides clinical services for adults and children with psychiatric illness at Los Angeles General Medical Center and is a board-certified psychiatric pharmacist with national and international recognition for her educational excellence. Her educational background includes a PharmD from the University of Southern California and residency training at the University of Nebraska. Dr. Dopheide served as USC's PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency program director from 1998-2022 and currently supervises pharmacy residents and students in comprehensive medication management on inpatient psychiatry services and in clinics. Dr. Dopheide's research focuses on therapeutic drug monitoring of antipsychotics, assessing the tolerability of psychotropics (particularly valproate loading doses), and expanding direct patient care roles for psychiatric pharmacists. Her expertise spans Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Depression and Bipolar Disorder, Insomnia and Sleep Disorders, Eating Disorders, and comprehensive medication management of psychotropic medications including their pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and clinically significant drug interactions. Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on advancing the role of psychiatric pharmacists in mental healthcare systems, improving documentation practices for drug interactions, optimizing antipsychotic selection in emergency settings, and developing educational frameworks for psychiatric pharmacy training. Her work consistently bridges clinical practice with educational innovation. 2020 Judith J. She serves as an invited speaker for national pharmacy organizations including the American Pharmacists Association, American Society of Health System Pharmacists, and the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacy. Dr. Dopheide has also contributed to the Board of Pharmacy Specialties Examination for Psychiatric Pharmacy and served as chair (2021-2022) and vice-chair of the psychiatric specialty council.
