Dr. Unai Lopez de Heredia Larrea is a Lecturer at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid , specifically within the Department of Natural Systems and Resources . His career spans over two decades at UPM, where he has held roles including Profesor Titular de Universidad since 2014. He actively contributes to both teaching and research, focusing on forest tree species' environmental adaptation through multidisciplinary approaches. Education : PhD in Forestry (specialization in Forest Genetics) from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Master's in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from ENS-ISCIII. Dr. Lopez de Heredia's research integrates plant anatomy , physiology , and genetics to study forest tree adaptability, particularly Mediterranean pines and oaks. His work develops bioinformatic pipelines for NGS data analysis, addressing challenges in non-model species genomic resources. His recent publications emphasize computational approaches in population genetics, hybridization analysis in Quercus species, and environmental stress responses in conifers. The SimHyb2 and gymnotoa-db software tools he co-developed demonstrate his commitment to computational solutions in plant genomics. As a member of the Development of Woody Species and Communities (WooSp) Research Group since 2023, he contributes to understanding evolutionary forces in forest populations. His teaching responsibilities include Plant Anatomy , Biology , and Forest Genetics courses.
