Rachèl Spros is an Education/Research Officer in Chemistry and Archaeology at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), specializing in isotopic analysis of human remains to reconstruct historical mobility and dietary patterns. She holds a B.A. in Art Sciences and Archaeology from VUB (2018) and an M.Sc. in Archaeological Science from the University of Oxford (2019). Her research focuses on medieval urban populations, particularly in Ypres (Belgium), using multi-isotope approaches to study migration, health, and social structures. Key projects include the Make-Up of the City project analyzing 13th-14th century skeletal remains, and Merovingian kinship studies through DNA and isotope analyses. Notable contributions include identifying Ypres' highest oxygen isotope values in northwestern Europe and discovering genetic fusion between populations in Flanders. She co-authored 21 peer-reviewed articles and datasets, receiving awards for best student poster (2021) and interdisciplinary research (2024). Research Themes: Isotopic mobility, medieval urbanization, bioarchaeological methods Key Collaborations: Snoeck Lab (VUB), University of Cambridge, University of Ljubljana
