Sasirekha Ramani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine , Houston, TX. Her research focuses on viral gastroenteritis caused by rotaviruses and noroviruses, emphasizing maternal and child health, immune responses to infections and vaccines, and the role of glycans in infectious diseases. She leads the Ramani Lab, which combines molecular virology, epidemiology, and clinical studies to address disease susceptibility and vaccine efficacy. Her work integrates human intestinal organoid cultures with field studies, providing insights into human-pathogen interactions. Key collaborations span clinical, epidemiological, and virology research, with a focus on resource-limited settings. The lab’s long-term goals include developing interventions against enteric pathogens and understanding microbiome influences on infections. Recent publications highlight advancements in norovirus cultivation in enteroids, rotavirus glycan interactions, and translational research on vaccines and antivirals. Dr. Ramani’s interdisciplinary approach bridges basic science and clinical applications, aiming to improve global public health outcomes in enteric diseases.
