Marisa A. Abrajano is a Professor of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego), and has served as Provost of Earl Warren College since 2021. She holds a Ph.D. (2005), M.A. (2002), and B.A. (1999) in Political Science from New York University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), respectively. Her research focuses on racial and ethnic inequalities in the U.S. political system, particularly addressing political participation , voting behavior , campaign strategies , and the role of mass media in shaping political engagement. She has authored five books, including White Backlash: Immigration, Race, and American Politics (2015) and Campaigning to the New American Electorate: Television Advertising to Latinos (2010), which won the APSA Latino Caucus Best Book Award. Her work also explores Latino political behavior, immigration policy impacts, and misinformation in marginalized communities. Awards : Ralphe Bunche Award (2015), Diversity Equity and Inclusion Teaching Award (2013-14), Latino Caucus Best Book Award (2012). Grants : Led or co-led projects on voter mobilization, immigration media coverage, and racial discrimination in voting, totaling over $500,000 in funding. Abrajano is actively involved in academic service, serving as a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution (2014-2015), editorial board member for Journal of Politics and Journal of Public Policy , and committee chair for the APSA Status of Latinas/os in the Profession (2014-2015). She co-directs the Dimensions of Culture Program at Marshall College and is affiliated with the Urban Studies Department and Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies at UC San Diego.
