Börje Norlin serves as an Associate Professor at Mid Sweden University, Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering. His professional focus centers on X-ray based imaging systems and synchrotron instrumentation, with extensive work in developing advanced measurement techniques for industrial applications. His primary research interests include spectroscopic X-ray analysis, detector technology development, and material characterization with particular emphasis on paperboard quality inspection and sulfur homogeneity in packaging papers. His work bridges physics, engineering, and industrial applications, focusing on non-destructive testing methods that improve manufacturing processes. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong trend toward applying X-ray fluorescence techniques to solve industrial challenges, particularly in the pulp and paper industry. His research increasingly focuses on synchrotron-based imaging for characterizing sulfur distribution in fibers, which directly impacts paper strength and quality. The work combines fundamental detector development with practical industrial applications. Norlin has chaired the SACO-S/SULF union at Mid Sweden University since 2024 and has led numerous research projects including Micro X-ray, Synchrotron-based investigation of sulfur homogeneity, and various detector development initiatives. His research has been applied to improve packaging paper strength through better understanding of sulfur distribution at the fiber level.
