Jonathan Juliano is a Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine and a Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Gillings School of Global Public Health. He serves as Associate Chief of Research in the Division of Infectious Diseases, Associate Director of the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases, and leads the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Ecology Lab (IDEEL). Journals like Lancet Infectious Diseases and Nature Communications feature his work on Plasmodium genomics and artemisinin resistance trends. He received the 2025 Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor award. Dr. Juliano mentors students and postdoctoral scholars, including Zachary Popkin-Hall (now Assistant Professor at Western Connecticut State University) and Ashenafi Assefa Bahita (featured in IGHID program). His lab drives projects in Rwanda and global health initiatives.
