Siavash Samei is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology/Sociology at Centre College. As an Iranian environmental archaeologist, his work explores the long-term relationships between climate, environment, and migratory lifeways of herding and foraging societies in mountainous landscapes across West and South Asia, spanning from the Paleolithic period to the present day. BA: Anthropology, University of Georgia MA: Anthropology, University of Connecticut PhD: Anthropology, University of Connecticut His research employs interdisciplinary methods such as ecological modeling, archaeological/ethnographic fieldwork, stable isotope analysis, and zooarchaeology. He currently co-directs two major projects: the Tübingen–Armenian–American Paleolithic Project (TAAPP) in Armenia and the Pastoralists of the Aravalli Mountains Ethnoarchaeology Project (PArMEP) in Rajasthan, India. He also participates in international collaborations in Iran (MAFISE and HEZM). Scientific trends in his publications focus on the Kura-Araxes cultural tradition, highland pastoralism, stable isotope analyses, and the archaeological visibility of migratory landscapes. His work integrates zooarchaeological and environmental data to reconstruct subsistence economies and mobility patterns across millennia.
