Dr. Amelie Heuer-Jungemann is a Full Professor (W3) at TU Dortmund and Research Center One Health Ruhr, where she holds the Chair for HybridBioNano Materials since 2025. Previously, she led the Emmy-Noether-Research Group at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (2020-2024). Her research integrates DNA nanotechnology, biophysics, and materials science to develop functional nanostructures for biomedical applications. Her education includes: PhD in Biophysics from University of Southampton (2015) MChem in Chemistry with Biochemistry from Heriot-Watt University (2011) Research focuses on DNA origami nanostructures for: Deciphering cellular signaling pathways Developing DNA-silica hybrids for biomedical uses (antisense therapy, immunotherapy) Creating efficient enzyme cascades Studying protein interactions and properties Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate strong trends in functional DNA nanostructures, with key themes including: cancer therapy applications (3D spheroid models, apoptosis induction), advanced material design (crystalline assemblies, silica templating), and novel characterization methods (fluorescence sensors, SAXS analysis). Biomedical translation and nanoscale engineering dominate her research trajectory. Significant scientific recognition includes: VCI Dozentenpreis 2024 ERC Consolidator Grant (2023) Emmy Noether Grant (2020) CeNS Publication Award (2023) EPSRC Doctoral Prize (2015) She leads an interdisciplinary research group with 7 PhD students and multiple postdocs. Major grants include the ERC Consolidator Grant "NanoCat" for developing enzyme cascade systems in silicified DNA origami. The lab is relocating to TU Dortmund in mid-2025.
