Prof. Dr. Tobias Hodel is an Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities at the University of Bern, affiliated with the Walter Benjamin College. His work focuses on applying machine learning and critical algorithm studies to historical and textual analysis. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich and has held roles such as Project Manager for the Königsfelden Edition Project and coordinator of the 'Ad fontes' e-learning program. Hodel’s research explores intersections between digital methods and traditional humanities, emphasizing ethical AI use in archives and historical workflows. He supervises numerous doctoral students and chairs the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW). His contributions span publications in journals like Historische Zeitschrift and conferences such as DHd and Digital Humanities.
