Tim Bartley is a Professor of Physics at the University of Paderborn, where he leads the Mesoscopic Quantum Optics research group within the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. He is also a member of the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS) and the Center for Optoelectronics and Photonics (CeOPP). His educational background includes a DPhil in Atomic & Laser Physics from Oxford University (2014), an MSci in Physics with a Year in Europe from Imperial College London (2005-2009), and an Erasmus year at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg (2007-2008). Professor Bartley's research focuses on quantum optics, particularly in the areas of integrated quantum photonics, superconducting single-photon detectors, and cryogenic quantum systems. His work bridges fundamental quantum physics with practical applications in quantum information processing and quantum sensing technologies. He has made significant contributions to the development of integrated quantum photonic devices using titanium in-diffused lithium niobate waveguides. His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on cryogenic quantum photonics, with particular emphasis on integrated single-photon detectors and quantum light sources. The research shows a clear progression toward more sophisticated integrated quantum photonic systems that operate at cryogenic temperatures, enabling new possibilities for quantum information processing. He leads the Mesoscopic Quantum Optics laboratory at the University of Paderborn, which is part of the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS), a research center he helped found in 2018. The laboratory focuses on developing integrated quantum photonic technologies for applications in quantum computing and quantum communication.
