Paolo Bardella is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET), Politecnico di Torino, and Vice Coordinator of the School of Electronic, Telecommunications and Physics Engineering. He leads the Interdepartmental Center Photonext on Applied Photonics and chairs the NUSOD conference committees. Research focus: Semiconductor lasers for optical frequency combs, photonic integrated circuits, machine learning applications in photonics, and thermal/optical control systems Key projects: SCIPIO (Phase-Change Material Photonics), MIRABILIS (Mid-Infrared Imaging), COMBlaser (Quantum Dot Laser Simulation) His recent publications (2023-2025) highlight trends in photonic computing with MZI meshes, thermal crosstalk mitigation, and machine learning-aided optical device modeling. Awards include IEEE Best Paper (2013), NUSOD Top Papers (2016/2021), FFABR Grant (2017), and Optics Letters Editors' Pick (2019). Supervises 7 PhD students in advanced photonic component design and biomedical applications.
