Erich Kistler is a full professor of Classical Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology , Leopold Franzens University Innsbruck , since 2010. His career spans roles at the University of Zurich, University of Bern, Ruhr University Bochum, and declined an offer from Heidelberg University in 2012. He directs the Innsbruck Monte Iato Project in Sicily and has led interdisciplinary initiatives like the doctoral program 'Figuration Counterculture.' Current: Professor at University of Innsbruck Past: Professor at Ruhr University Bochum (2008-2010), Co-Director of Ietas excavation (2006-2008) His research focuses on the Iron Age Mediterranean , emphasizing elite 'orientalization,' ritual consumption, and local-global dynamics. He explores visual communication in archaic/classical vases and how barbarian representations convey cultural norms. Recent publications analyze the indigenous settlement of Monte Iato via ethnoarchaeometric methods, pottery production trends, and Persian cultural influences.
