Professor Aoife M. McDermott is a faculty member at Aston University's College of Business and Social Sciences, specializing in Leadership and Management. She holds additional affiliations as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley and an Adjunct Professor at Griffith University's Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing. She completed her BA in Business & Sociology (with gold medal) and PhD at Trinity College Dublin as a Trinity Scholar and Government of Ireland Research Scholar. Her research examines human resource management and organizational change in health and social care contexts, focusing on: Work design implications including skill mix and technology impacts Employee wellbeing, retention strategies, and responses to change HR function development in healthcare systems Line management roles in organizational transformation Her recent publications (2024-2025) predominantly explore healthcare workforce challenges, including line management practices, HRM frameworks for health systems, and primary care physician experiences. Research consistently addresses optimizing human resources to improve healthcare delivery and staff retention.
