Gustavo Alves is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering , School of Engineering , Polytechnic Institute of Porto , Portugal. He holds a PhD in Computers and Electrical Engineering from the University of Porto (1999) and has authored over 250 publications, including books, journal articles, and conference papers. His research focuses on engineering education , remote experimentation (weblabs), and design for debug & test , with significant contributions to global initiatives like the Global Online Laboratory Consortium (GOLC) and the Portuguese Society for Engineering Education (SPEE) , where he serves as President. Dr. Alves has led 19 national and international research projects and co-edited books on remote labs. His editorial roles include Associated Editor for IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies and guest editorships for journals like iJOE , iJEP , and Computers in Human Behavior . He has chaired major conferences such as REV2014 , TEEM2015 , and EDUCON2020 , emphasizing the role of technology in bridging educational gaps and fostering diversity in STEM. His recent publications (2017-2019) analyze the effectiveness of remote labs in enhancing experimental skills, contextualizing mathematics in engineering education, and promoting sustainable laboratory practices. These works highlight trends in technology-enhanced learning , gender perspectives in engineering curricula , and collaborative education models .
