Ofosuhene Okofrobour Apenteng serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in Animal Welfare and Disease Control within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Animal Health Economics (TIPTON) research group. His work bridges mathematical modeling, veterinary science, and economic analysis to address critical challenges in infectious disease dynamics and antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Apenteng's research centers on advanced mathematical epidemiology, developing parameter estimation techniques for multiscale disease modeling spanning within-host mechanisms to population-level transmission. He investigates how human and animal movement influences pathogen spread—including tourism impacts on HIV, migrant effects on disease networks, and livestock trade on antimicrobial resistance—while creating surveillance systems for AMR detection in Danish agriculture. His methodological expertise encompasses numerical simulation analysis, control strategy assessment, and comorbidity-adjusted economic modeling. Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a cohesive research trajectory applying quantitative approaches to One Health challenges: modeling ESBL-producing E. coli transmission in livestock, quantifying foot-and-mouth disease economic losses in Ethiopia, analyzing Salmonella spread through cattle networks, and identifying African swine fever risk factors using public datasets. These works demonstrate expertise in compartmental modeling, social network analysis, and data linkage techniques across veterinary, public health, and economic domains. Dr. Apenteng actively supervises doctoral research and secures major international funding, currently leading work packages in two HORIZON Europe projects: BIOSECURE (enhancing livestock biosecurity) and WiLiMan-ID (studying wildlife-livestock-human disease interfaces). Previously, he contributed to EU initiatives like Promoting One Health in Europe through joint actions on foodborne zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance, collaborating with authorities including EFSA and national veterinary services.
