Hilde Johnsen Venvik is a Professor at the Department of Chemical Process Technology, NTNU, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. She holds a Master of Science in Engineering Physics (NTH, 1993) and a Doctor of Engineering (NTNU, 1998), focusing on experimental surface science using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy. Her research spans heterogeneous catalysis, surface science, and industrial applications in gas conversion and renewable energy. She led the Gas Technology Center NTNU-SINTEF (2010–2015) and currently heads the iCSI Center for Research-Driven Innovation (since 2015), a collaboration with industry partners like Yara and academic institutions. Venvik has published ~80 articles, holds an h-index of 27, and supervised 8 PhD students as primary advisor and 38 master’s students. Her work emphasizes process intensification via microstructured reactors and membrane technology, with international collaborations in Germany and the USA (e.g., University of Wisconsin-Madison). Research interests include catalytic systems for hydrogen production, CO oxidation on Pd-Ag surfaces, and metal dusting corrosion in industrial alloys. She has pioneered studies on cobalt catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and developed advanced hydrogen separation membranes. Venvik’s iCSI initiative aims to advance industrial catalysis through innovation, educating 15 PhDs and 7 postdocs over 8 years with a 192 MNOK budget.
