Robert C Koons is a Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy within the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. Holding a PhD from the University of California at Los Angeles, he maintains an active teaching schedule with courses extending through Fall 2025, including Metaphysics, Ancient Philosophy, and Contemporary Hylomorphism. His research centers on applying Aristotelian frameworks to contemporary philosophical problems across multiple domains. Koons specializes in philosophical logic, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, political philosophy, and philosophy of religion. Recent work focuses on Aristotelian interpretations of quantum theory and arguments for classical theism, representing his longstanding commitment to reviving Aristotelian approaches in modern philosophical discourse. Analysis of his publication record reveals a consistent trajectory toward Neo-Aristotelian perspectives across multiple disciplines. His work bridges historical philosophical traditions with contemporary scientific and theological questions, particularly evident in his recent edited volumes on classical theism and the metaphysics of science. The publications demonstrate increasing integration of Aristotelian metaphysics with cutting-edge discussions in philosophy of science, quantum mechanics, and theological reasoning. Koons has authored or co-edited ten major works including Paradoxes of Belief and Strategic Rationality (1992), Realism Regained (2000), The Waning of Materialism (2010), The Atlas of Reality (2017), and the recent Classical Theism (2023). His scholarly contributions consistently challenge materialist assumptions while developing systematic alternatives grounded in Aristotelian metaphysics.
