Gabriel Rosselló Calafell is a Tenured Contract Senior Lecturer in Ancient History at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he serves as Director of the Master's Degree in Mediterranean Studies (MMED). His academic career is centered on the Faculty of History and Theory of Art, with significant contributions to the understanding of Carthaginian diplomacy and Punic studies through a critical, non-Romanocentric lens. His research focuses on Carthage and the Punic world, with special attention to diplomatic practices in the Mediterranean context. He analyzes the impact of Roman Republican expansion in North Africa (3rd–1st centuries BC), ethnocentric perception in literary sources, and various aspects of ancient history of the Balearic Islands. His scholarly output reveals a consistent pattern of examining diplomatic spaces, gift exchange systems, embassy structures, and political institutions during the Punic Wars and Roman expansion. Rosselló Calafell's publications demonstrate substantial scholarly impact, with his 2023 monograph 'Relaciones exteriores y praxis diplomática cartaginesa. El período de las Guerras Púnicas' representing a significant contribution to the field. His research appears in prestigious journals including Gerión, SHHA, DHA, Ktèma, and Latomus, with multiple publications annually reflecting active scholarly engagement. He is actively involved in multiple research projects, including 'Entornos para el diálogo: los espacios de la diplomacia en el ámbito provincial romano durante la República' (PID2022-137408NB-100) and 'El tiempo de las Guerras Púnicas y sus relatos: interacción, hibridación y multipolaridad en el Occidente mediterráneo' (PID2022-141458NB-I00). As Principal Investigator, he leads the educational innovation project 'Una imatge val més que mil paraules. La Història acadèmica vs les fake news en format audiovisual' (PID232511). His teaching responsibilities include courses such as 'Cities in the Roman Empire,' 'Epigraphy and Numismatics in the Ancient World,' 'History of Ancient Spain,' and 'War and Diplomacy in Rome's Mediterranean Expansion' across both undergraduate and Master's programs. He also organizes the annual 'International Seminar on Ancient History Studies: War and Diplomacy in the Roman Republican Era,' now in its fourth edition.
