Professor Raúl O.C. Fonseca serves as Chair of Experimental Petrology and Geochemistry at Ruhr University Bochum since 2019. His research combines high-pressure experiments with isotope geochemistry to investigate planetary differentiation, terrestrial magmatism, and element cycling in extreme conditions. Education : PhD in Geochemistry (Australian National University, 2007); Licentiateship in Geology (University of Lisbon, 2002) Key Research Areas : Trace element and stable isotope behavior during mantle melting/crystallization Fe-S melt mobility in planetary interiors Ti/B isotope applications to Archean crust formation and lunar evolution Diamond genesis through sulfide melt interactions Projects : Funded by DFG Heisenberg Professorship until 2024, with ongoing grants through 2028 for studies on: Metallic melt migration dynamics Ti isotopes in Archean TTG rocks Boron isotope fluid tracing in subduction zones Teaching : Courses in Earth materials, igneous petrology, geochemical methods, and high-temperature thermodynamics Editorial Roles : Associate Editor for Geochemical Perspectives Letters and Advances in Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry
