François Lanzetta is a Full Professor at the University of Franche-Comté, UFR STGI (Unité de Formation et de Recherche Sciences et Techniques de Génie Industriel), Department of Sciences and Energy, Louis Néel campus in Belfort, France. He has held this position since 2010 and currently serves as the head of the THERMIE research team in the Energy Department at the FEMTO-ST Institute, which is part of the University of Burgundy Franche-Comté and CNRS. Previously, he was the Director of the Energy Department from 2014 to 2018. Professor Lanzetta's research focuses on several key areas of thermal engineering and energy systems: Heat transfer and thermodynamics, particularly in oscillating fluid flows with heat transfer inside porous heat exchangers (regenerators) Development of microsensors for temperature, heat flux, and flow measurement, with applications in fluid mechanics and heat transfer Modeling, design, and experimental characterization of energy harvesting machines, including Stirling engines (from micro-MEMS to large-scale cogeneration systems), Stirling refrigerators for household applications, and Ericsson engines for industrial waste heat recovery His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on Stirling cycle technology, regenerator design, and microscale thermal systems. Professor Lanzetta has published extensively in thermal science journals and conference proceedings, with particular emphasis on practical applications of thermodynamic principles to energy conversion systems. His work spans from theoretical modeling to experimental validation of thermal systems. Professor Lanzetta has been actively involved in organizing academic events, including serving as President of the Organizing Committee for the 28th and 29th French Thermal Congress (SFT 2020 and SFT 2021), demonstrating his leadership within the thermal engineering community. He leads the THERMIE research team, which focuses on thermal engineering and energy systems, with particular expertise in Stirling and Ericsson cycle machines, thermal measurements, and microscale thermal systems. His laboratory conducts both theoretical and experimental research, with specialized equipment for thermal characterization and testing of energy conversion devices.
