John Haynes is a Senior Lecturer at Monash University's Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, leading the Stem Cell Biology group. He is affiliated with the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and contributes to the Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Action division. His research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, leveraging stem cell models and drug discovery approaches. Haynes teaches courses in renal physiology, pharmacology, neurodegeneration, and diuretic action. Research interests include disease model development, inflammation mechanisms, and translational therapies. Notably, his work explores stem cell-derived models for neurodegenerative disorders and employs molecular dynamics to enhance drug efficacy. He has led or co-led 18 research projects since 2002, funded by organizations like NHMRC and ARC, focusing on topics such as Alport syndrome, microglial progenitors, and dopaminergic neuron maturation. His publications span 2023 to 1988, with recent work emphasizing stem cell differentiation, neuronal maturation, and stress-Alzheimer's interactions. Haynes has engaged in academic activities, including submissions to government committees and media contributions, such as a 2019 feature on functional food validation tools. He actively supervises PhD students in neurodegeneration projects.
