Suraj Sharma is a Professor in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors within the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia. His research focuses on sustainable materials development using biobased polymers and nanocellulose. Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, Clemson University (2008) M.S. in Textile Engineering, IIT Delhi (1996) B.S. in Textile Engineering, MLV Textile Institute (1994) Key research areas include: Bioplastics/biocomposites from agricultural waste Nanocellulose-based textile treatments Biosynthesis of polyesters using microalgae Piezoelectric nanogenerators for smart textiles Recent publications focus on nanocellulose coatings for textiles, biodegradable polymers , and flexible energy-harvesting materials . He has contributed to book chapters on algal biopolymers and sustainable materials, and holds several patents in bioplastic fabrication and nanocellulose applications. Current editorial roles include membership on the ASTM Journal of Testing and Evaluation editorial board since 2018. His work involves interdisciplinary collaborations with polymer scientists and biomedical researchers.
