Javier Muñoz-Basols is an Honorary Faculty Research Fellow at the University of Oxford and a Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Senior Researcher at the University of Seville. He holds a PhD from Pompeu Fabra University and an MA from the University of Pennsylvania. His academic roles include Senior Lecturer in Spanish Research and former Director of the John Rutherford Centre for Galician Studies. His research focuses on three main areas: language contact/multilingualism, technology in language education (including AI), and institutional impacts on language teaching. Leadership roles: Principal Investigator of the 'Portal de lingüística hispánica', COMUN-ES project co-leader, and editor of major Routledge series. Awards: 2023 AATSP Leadership Award, 2020 Best Online Teaching Practices Award, and 2015 Excellence Award. Publications: Over 50 books and articles, including Technology-Mediated Language Teaching (2025) and La diversidad del español y su enseñanza (2021). Research interests bridge micro-level language acquisition and macro-level institutional frameworks. Key projects address AI ethics in language education, digital linguistic bias, and socio-technical justice in technology-mediated teaching.
