Katsafados Petros is a Professor and Department Chair at the Department of Geography , Harokopio University , Athens. His academic journey began with a Mathematics degree from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1993), followed by a Master's in Environmental Physics (1996), and a PhD in Meteorology and Environmental Physics (2003). He leads undergraduate programs in Meteorology, Climate Change, and Environmental Risk Management, while directing research in atmospheric dynamics, climate modeling, and natural disaster prediction. National and Kapodistrian University of Athens: BSc Mathematics (1993), MSc Environmental Physics (1996), PhD Meteorology & Environmental Physics (2003) Research interests span multiple interconnected domains: Atmospheric Dynamics : Regional and mesoscale simulations, meteorological data assimilation, atmosphere-ocean-land interactions Climate Science : Climate change impacts, extreme weather events, seasonal predictability Applied Geoinformatics : Modeling natural disasters, risk assessment, renewable energy applications Environmental Hazards : Air pollution analysis, dust transport, hydrometeorological disasters Marine Meteorology : Tropical-like cyclones, sea-state feedback mechanisms, ocean-atmosphere coupling Recent publications demonstrate a focus on integrating geospatial tools with climate modeling to address environmental challenges. Key trends include: Advancing data assimilation techniques using satellite observations Investigating dust transport and mineralogy impacts on climate Developing coupled atmosphere-ocean-wave models Urban climate resilience strategies like green roofs Hydrological impacts of climate change and extreme events Improving numerical weather prediction accuracy Scientific contributions include developing innovative geoinformation tools and leading interdisciplinary research projects. He serves on program committees for postgraduate programs in Applied Geoinformatics and Climate Crisis Risk Management, demonstrating leadership in academic governance and education.
