Stine Jacobsen is a Professor of Large Animal Surgery at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Section of Large Animal Medicine, Surgery and Reproduction within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. She obtained her DVM (veterinary degree) in 1998 and PhD in 2003 from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (now part of the University of Copenhagen). Since March 2015, she has held the position of Professor of Large Animal Surgery, following previous appointments as Associate Professor (2007-2015) and Assistant Professor (2003-2007). Dr. Jacobsen's educational background includes veterinary medicine from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (1998) and a PhD focusing on The bovine acute phase response to endotoxin and Gram-negative bacteria (2003). She completed specialized training as a Resident of the European College of Veterinary Surgery (2011-2014). Her research employs a 'bench-to-box' approach, focusing on understanding the pathophysiology of common large animal diseases by integrating clinical and laboratory disciplines. Current research priorities include investigating untoward inflammatory responses and trauma healing, particularly hyperresponsiveness during inflammation and aberrant wound healing processes. Her work bridges fundamental science with practical clinical applications in equine and bovine medicine. Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on equine inflammatory processes, acute phase proteins as diagnostic markers, and wound healing mechanisms. Her research increasingly incorporates advanced proteomic techniques to identify and quantify biomarkers, with growing emphasis on translational applications for veterinary diagnostics and treatment monitoring. Aage and Edith Dyssegaard's Foundation Award (2007) C.O Jensen's Memorial Award (2006) The Abildgaard Award for outstanding effort in veterinary clinical research (2003) Professor Jacobsen has supervised 8 PhD students to completion (4 as main supervisor, 4 as co-supervisor) and over 50 veterinary bachelor and Master students. Her editorial role as Associate Editor for BMC Veterinary Research since 2011 demonstrates her standing in the field. She has served on numerous PhD assessment committees and has been a member of the Veterinary Study Board since 2009. Her clinical work is centered at the Large Animal Teaching Hospital where she participates in surgical night duties. Her laboratory research focuses on inflammatory processes in large animals, with particular attention to acute phase proteins, joint disease mechanisms, and wound healing pathologies. She collaborates extensively with international researchers, as evidenced by her numerous conference presentations and organizational roles in major veterinary scientific meetings.
