Dr. Tania Hossain is a Professor and Assistant Dean at Waseda University's Faculty of Letters, Arts and Sciences in Tokyo, Japan. Originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, she completed her Ph.D. at International Christian University, Tokyo, following undergraduate and master's studies at the University of Dhaka. She teaches sociolinguistics and cultural heritage of South Asia, with a research focus on language and education policy studies, particularly concerning marginalized communities in South Asia. Dr. Hossain's educational background includes: Ph.D. in English Language Teaching from International Christian University (2004-2008) M.A. in English Language Teaching from International Christian University (2002-2004) Intensive Japanese Studies from Bunkyo University (2001-2002) M.A. in English Language Teaching from University of Dhaka (1998-2001) B.A.(Hons) in English Literature from University of Dhaka (1995-1998) Her research interests span sociolinguistics, cultural heritage of South Asia, language and education policy, and refugee studies. She has conducted extensive research on the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh, focusing on educational access and language rights. Her work also addresses women's empowerment, Dalit rights in India, and religious tourism in Bangladesh. As a multilingual scholar who has traveled to over 100 countries, she brings a global perspective to her research on language policy in post-colonial contexts. Dr. Hossain's recent publications reveal a strong focus on contemporary language education challenges, particularly regarding marginalized communities. Her work examines the intersection of AI and language learning, digital diaspora among refugee populations, and the implementation of language policies in South Asia. She has received funding for research on the economic impact of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia, expanding education for Rohingya refugee children, and the cultural heritage of Aligarh Muslim University.
