Raj Parthiban is a Professor and Adjunct Professor at Monash University, holding roles in both Malaysia and Australia. He serves as Deputy Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Engineering at Monash Australia. His academic journey includes a PhD in Optical Networks from the University of Melbourne (2004) and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from Monash University (2013). He has extensive experience in teaching, with over 10 subjects taught in electrical and computer engineering, achieving high student evaluations. Raj’s research focuses on optical networks, visible light communication, vehicular communication, IoT, and engineering education. He has secured over A$800k in external grants and supervised 18 PhD and 2 Master’s students. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and sustainable cities. Key projects include developing AI-driven agriculture systems, multimodal travel routing algorithms, and hybrid VLC platforms. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Optica, and has published over 100 journal/conference articles. His research spans from theoretical models (e.g., optical network architectures) to applied systems (e.g., traffic prediction, LiFi positioning). He actively engages in educational initiatives, including XR (Extended Reality) integration in engineering education and curriculum development.
