Professor Maciej Kupczyk is a distinguished academic at Poznań University of Technology, where he serves in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Mechanical Technology. With a career spanning several decades, he has established himself as an expert in surface engineering and cutting tool technology. His educational background includes a doctoral dissertation completed in 1988 titled "The influence of TiNₓ-Ti layer on modular chisels on selected technological quality indicators of teeth made of alloy structural steel for carburizing," supervised by Professor Kazimierz Wieczorowski. Professor Kupczyk's research primarily focuses on surface engineering , particularly anti-wear coatings for cutting tools. His work encompasses boron nitride coatings, sintered carbides, nanocrystalline materials, adhesion testing, and machining processes. He has made significant contributions to understanding how surface properties affect tool performance and longevity, with recent work exploring machine learning applications for predicting machining conditions and advanced composite coatings with improved fracture resistance. His recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate continued research activity, with studies on theoretical adhesion models, machine learning applications in machining, superhard boron nitride composites, and surface topography effects on cutting tool performance. His notable achievements include: 53 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals 46 book chapters in edited volumes 5 authored books on surface engineering and cutting tools Supervision of 5 doctoral dissertations Review of 6 doctoral dissertations Professor Kupczyk has supervised doctoral students including Jędrzej Komolka (2021), Piotr Siwak (2012), Przemysław Libuda (2007), Przemysław Cieszkowski (2007), and Witold Misiak (2003). His supervision focuses on cutting tool technology, surface engineering, and material properties. His book series "Surface Engineering" represents a significant contribution to the field, with volumes covering anti-wear coatings, cutting tools, and surface layer characteristics, providing comprehensive resources for students and professionals in manufacturing and materials engineering.
