Giedrė Mickūnaitė, a Professor at the Department of Art History and Theory and Art Research Institute of the Vilnius Academy of Arts , is a specialist in the art and culture of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Central Europe (14th–17th centuries). Her work focuses on the interplay of pictorial and textual imagery, cultural memory, and the temporal dimensions of art. She has held fellowships at institutions like the Warburg Institute , Dumbarton Oaks , and the Woodrow Wilson Center . Education: BA in Art History, Vilnius Academy of Arts (1989–1993) MA and PhD in Medieval Studies, Central European University (1993–2002) Her research explores Byzantine art in Catholic contexts , dynastic memory (Jagiellonians), and the role of absence in cultural production. She leads projects like “Maniera Greca in Europe’s Catholic East” and “Face, Trace, Grace” , funded by the Lithuanian Research Council and Polish Minister of Culture. Her bibliography includes a 2023 monograph Maniera Greca in Europe’s Catholic East and over 20 peer-reviewed articles since 2020.
