Professor Niamh O'Mahony is a full Professor of Anglo-American Studies with a focus on Intercultural Management & Business at ESB Business School, Reutlingen University. She serves as Programme Director of the MSc Global Management and Digital Competencies (MGM) program and is Co-Head of Languages at ESB Business School. Her academic journey spans institutions in Ireland, the UK, and Germany, reflecting her international perspective. Professor O'Mahony's educational background includes: BA in German and French Studies from University College Cork, Ireland (1990), with a year abroad at Heidelberg University MBA from Cardiff Business School, University of Wales (1991) MA in Translation Studies (German and French) from University College Cork (1994) PhD in 'German-Irish Corporate Relationships: The Cultural Dimension' from Aston University, Birmingham (2000) Her research focuses on intercultural management, business English, and design thinking methodologies. Professor O'Mahony has published extensively on intercultural management frameworks and practical applications of design thinking in business contexts, with recent publications appearing in business and management journals. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications for international business environments, showing an evolution from cultural dimensions of business relationships to innovation methodologies. With over two decades of academic experience, including positions at Aston University and her current role at ESB Business School since 2004 (becoming full Professor in 2006), Professor O'Mahony brings substantial expertise to her teaching and research. Before entering academia, she gained practical business experience in marketing and sales with The Smurfit Group and in her family's marine surveying business. Professor O'Mahony leads initiatives in language education at ESB Business School and directs the MSc Global Management and Digital Competencies program, contributing significantly to the school's international orientation and academic offerings.
