Samuel Ampaw is a Research Fellow at the Global Poverty Research Lab, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Nottingham (2022), an M.S. in Global Health from Northwestern University (expected 2025), an M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Ghana (2016), and a B.A. in Economics and Linguistics from the University of Ghana (2013). His research focuses on health economics, global public health, and development economics, with secondary interests in agricultural and labor economics. His work examines the social determinants of mental health, particularly analyzing the role of social media usage in post-COVID Ghana. He has conducted large-scale studies using Ghana's socioeconomic panel data, applying advanced statistical methods like random forests and LASSO regression. Current projects include longitudinal analyses of psychological distress transitions and the impact of health insurance on household savings in Ghana. Key publications include studies on health insurance policy effects, rural-urban healthcare disparities, and the interplay between childhood health insurance and educational outcomes. He has also contributed to policy-relevant research on poverty reduction through job ladder dynamics. Awards include the 2025 Best Poster Award from Northwestern University's Global Health Education Day and the Tri-campus Postgraduate Prize from the University of Nottingham.
