Arianne Cease is an Associate Professor at Arizona State University (ASU), holding dual appointments in the School of Sustainability and School of Life Sciences. She serves as Director of ASU's Global Locust Initiative and is affiliated with the Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems, Earth Systems Science for the Anthropocene, and the Global Futures Scientists and Scholars program. Her work focuses on sustainability science, integrating ecology, physiology, and human systems to address agricultural challenges. Education : Ph.D. in Biology from ASU (2012) and B.S. in Zoology from Oregon State University (2004). Research Interests : Transdisciplinary approaches to understanding human-plant-insect interactions, locust plagues, and phenotypic plasticity. Key areas include sustainable ecosystem management, rural livelihoods, and fostering diverse scientific collaboration. Recent studies explore nutrient-driven locust behavior, climate impacts on pest dynamics, and global pest management strategies. Grants & Advising : Lead PI on NSF grants totaling $1.3M, FFAR ($300K), and USAID projects ($540K). Teaches courses like Sustainable Ecosystems, Undergraduate Research, and Environmental Life Sciences. Advises students across multiple programs. Labs & Teams : Directs the Global Locust Initiative and collaborates with the Global Drylands Center and Swette Center, emphasizing interdisciplinary solutions for sustainable food systems.
